Wave Riders Swim Team

The YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston has offered competitive swimming opportunities for youth in Central Maine for over 100 years, this year celebrating our 105^th Anniversary. In 1923, the YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston was the only team from Maine to participate in the inaugural National YMCA Swimming Championships. In 1983 it was our YMCA that celebrated the first female swimmer to ever score points at the YMCA National Swimming Championships.

Over the years, the YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston has developed numerous State and New England Champions. Our swimmers have gone on to swim at many colleges and universities; Maine, Bates, Wheaton, Springfield College, UMass, UNH, Colby, Indiana, Plymouth State, Northeastern just to name a few.

One of our alumni swimmers that we are so very proud of is Matthew Charest. Matthew is the Assistant Coach at MIT and led the Lady Engineers to its first ever National Championship. MIT is the only college in New England to ever bring home a National Championship.

2-3 Volunteer Assistant Coaches are needed for the 2026-2027 season!

The purpose of our swim team is multi-fold:

To grow and sustain a high-quality, championship swim program in the greater L/A area.
To heighten community awareness and education to the importance of water safety.
To get all swimmers to realize their full athletic potential.

The Wave Riders are a FAMILY. We realize that all swimmers develop differently. Each member of the team will have opportunities to contribute to the success of the team. The contributions of each member of the team are valued equally. When your teammates succeed, our FAMILY succeeds.

HIRING ASSISTANT SWIM COACHES

We are seeking a part-time experienced Assistant Swim Team Coaches to lead our Twin Cities Swim Team. The ideal candidates will provide leadership in the preparation, planning, and operation of swim team practices and competitive meets. Keeping Athletes Safe

The Wave Riders, Maine Swimming, and USA Swimming’s top priority continues to be keeping our athletes safe. No form of abuse, including child sexual abuse, has a place in our sport. USA Swimming is committed to reducing the risk of abuse in swimming and increasing awareness of red flag behavior through its Safe Sport program. Coach's Code of Conduct

The Wave Riders Swim Team expects all coaches to adhere to the following expectations:

At all times, adhere to YMCA and USA Swimming’s rules and codes of conduct.
Set a good example of respect and sportsmanship for participants and fans to follow.
Act and dress with professionalism and dignity in a manner suitable to his/her profession.
Respect officials and their judgment and abide by the rules of the event.
Treat opposing coaches, participants, and spectators with respect.
Instruct participants in sportsmanship and demand that they display good sportsmanship.
Coach in a positive manner and do not use derogatory comments or abusive language.
Win with humility and lose with dignity.
Treat every athlete fairly, justly, impartially, intelligently, and with sensitivity.
Always place the well-being, health, and safety of swimmers above all other considerations, including developing performance.
Continue to seek and maintain their own professional development in all areas in relation to coaching and teaching children.
Always maintain a professional separation between coach and athlete.

Any complaints of a coach violating this code of conduct will be brought to the attention of his/her supervisor. Reports can be submitted digitally to our HR department using our online reporting portal alymca.org/report.
