YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston

Youth Sports

The Y is the starting point for many children to learn about becoming and staying active, and developing healthy habits they’ll carry with them throughout their lives. The benefits are far greater than just physical health, our sports programs develop more than skills—they develop character. Children learn sportsmanship, teamwork and the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Your child will make new friends, learn new skills and gain self-confidence while participating in fun, safe Y sports programs. Whether it’s gaining the confidence that comes from learning to swim or building the positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship and teamwork, participating in sports at the Y is about building the whole child, from the inside out.

Program goals

1. Youth to learn about becoming and staying active, and developing healthy habits they’ll carry with them throughout their lives.

2. Make new friends, get active with other kids, and learn to love sport at the Y.

3. Learn or improve skills and techniques.

4. Build social skills, gain confidence, and develop leadership skills in a positive and structured environment.

5. Teaching boys and girls the value of teamwork, sportsmanship, cooperation, and develop a positive self-image.

Twin Cities Swim Team & Summer Swim Team

The YMCA and YWCA have partnered to form a united youth-oriented swim team, joining their individual youth team swim programs into one entity, the Twin Cities Swim Team. The purpose of this exciting collaboration is multi-fold.

First, to grow and sustain a high-quality, championship swim program in the greater L/A area, and second, heighten community awareness and education to the importance of water safety. Twin Cities Swim Team is a TEAM. Each member of the team will have opportunities to contribute to the success of the team. The contributions of each member of the team are valued equally. When your teammates succeed, you succeed. The objective of the Twin Cities Swim Team is to help its members to develop into competitive swimmers. We realize that all swimmers develop differently. It is our aim to get all swimmers to realize their full athletic potential.
