Cancer is a life-changing disease that takes a tremendous physical and emotional toll on all those affected. LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is an evidence-based physical activity and well-being program to help adult cancer survivors reclaim their total health.
Participants work with Y staff trained in supportive cancer care to safely achieve their goals such as building muscle mass and strength, increasing flexibility and endurance, and improving confidence and self-esteem. By focusing on the whole person and not the disease, LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is helping people move beyond cancer in mind, body, and spirit.
This program is sponsored by the Maine Cancer Foundation.

If you would like to support this program, we are accepting donations in the name of our former participant and dear friend Gary Roak, who passed away on June 30th, 2025. Gary and his wife, Lyn, both expressed how impactful LiveStrong® at the YMCA was for them and how they wished to see it continue offering help and support to others.
Please also take a moment to read Gary’s full obituary to learn more about his life and impact. Gary’s positive attitude, energy, and passion for life will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and the community.
